Meet David García

Founder & Curriculum Director of The English Lab

David is an experienced ESL teacher and language coach who enjoys helping students break through boundaries of fear and advance in their confident use of English, by learning, practicing and improving essential skills for professional-level English in speaking, writing and presenting.

Since 2010, David has been operating The English Lab, based in San Juan, Puerto Rico and has built himself a reputation as a thorough and effective English language coach, working with top executives, managers, administrators and technicians, scientists, engineers, bankers and beauty queens.

Originally from Philadelphia, PA, USA, David has lived in Puerto Rico for most of his life. Prior to The English Lab, he had worked as an ESL teacher and program coordinator, educational consultant, editor and writer. He loves his work with a passion, and it shows. David’s ESL teaching & coaching philosophy is that teaching must be contextually relevant and offer a safe, guided environment to learn, practice and grow. From the first interview and orientation call and throughout your enrollment, David will challenge and encourage your skills to make these things happen.

David has a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Texas at San Antonio and coursework completed toward an MA in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). In 2005, a locally published collection of his stories - Cuentos Favoritos de Puerto Rico (Taino Press 2005) - was selected by Criticas Magazine as 'One of Top 10 Picks for Hispanic Heritage Month'.
